Grand Tetons
June 26-28, 2018
Mileage 53205
When we left
Mammoth campground Sherry saw four Elk cross the road just in front of an
oncoming pickup. She thinks they were the same four we say in the town of
Mammoth last night. She was driving the Jeep separately because we are heading
south to Grand Teton NP. We had gone
about 10 miles when a bunch of cars had stopped and we got to see our second
Black Bear. We reached the construction area and two Buffalo were approaching
the road and I in the RV was waved on by the traffic controller. The Buffalo
walked onto the road in front of Sherry and she had to slowly follow them for
the next ½ mile. I pulled over and we
reconnected the Jeep as the terrain wasn’t as steep. As we were leaving the
South entrance about 200 vehicles were in line to come into the park. We had no
problem leaving and the next stop was at Jackson Lake overview. Wow what a
great view, we stopped and had lunch in the RV as we watched across the lake to
the snow covered mountains.
Our next stop
was at the Visitors Center and because I had made a turn into what I thought
and was mistaken we had to disconnect the Jeep again to turn around. We made it
to the Visitor center and enjoyed the items on display. When we left the
Visitor center we continued to drive separate and Sherry got a stone in the
windshield. It must have been picked up via a truck tire and flew across the
road.
We had not made
reservations and I planned to go on into Jackson, and secure RV lodging. There
was a visitor center for Jackson and we stopped and inquired as where they
would recommend we stay. The docent directed us to Gros Venture Park back the
way we had come about 10 miles.
We secured a
campsite with no connections for the next two nights and then extended it for a
third. We took the Jeep back to Jackson and walked and shopped. We saw a Moose
along the river at the RV park and took pictures.

We went to
the National Wildlife Art Museum, this is a MUST SEE in Jackson Hole. They have
lots of mounts as we expected and also a lot of oil paintings and sculptures.
Sherry purchased some fly fishing drawer pulls for a project at home. We had lunch
at McDonalds this was the first time we ate at McDonalds since we left.
The next stop
was the National Elk Reserve. The Elk weren’t where we were however. There is a
cabin that belonged to Alvin Miller one of the first settlers in the area. We
toured the cabin and learned a lot about the area.

This night we
had reservations for J Bar –T Chuck wagon meal. We were loaded into horse drawn
wagons with seats down each side and were taken to the Teton national forest
where there was an open sided structure and we were served a great meal with
lots of trimmings. This was all done buffet style. After the meal we were entertained
by the cowboys who sang and told jokes.

We headed to the old church
and the Menors ferry crossing across the Snake River. The ferry wasn’t
operating, still too early in the season. The church is still having meetings
and is open for public viewing. What great views they have over the pulpit
toward the mountains.
Next we drove to Teton Village
and they have lots of shops and also a Tram to the mountain top which we really
enjoyed. There were two men on our trolley car that had big back packs. I
wondered if they were going back country camping. However it turned out they
got the parachutes ready and jumped off the mountain and slowly drifted toward
the valley below.

Such a beautiful part of the country! The Jackson Lake pictures are breathtaking.
